Howell man in WFAN finals

Sports Radio 66, WFAN’s “Fantasy Phenom III Challenge” has narrowed its field to five finalists who will vie for the grand prize of a chance to host a once-a-week air shift on WFAN for one year. One of the finalists is a resident of Howell.

The finals of the “Fantasy Phenom III Challenge” will take place on Aug. 24 at Bar Anticipation, Lake Como. The event will be broadcast live on the Mike Francesa program, “Mike’s On,” between 1 and 6:30 p.m., onair, streaming online at www.wfan.com, through mobile devices and simulcast on the YES television network.

WFAN listeners are invited to Bar A to attend the event and watch the competition live, according to a press release.

The five “Fantasy Phenom III” finalists are all local to the New York metropolitan area and were chosen from thousands of fans and loyal listeners who showed up at the auditions. Auditions were held at area Simon malls in July, as well as online entry.

The finalists are:

 Joseph Giglio, Howell. A lifetime WFAN listener, Giglio graduated from De- Sales University in 2008 with a degree in sports management. He is a New York Giants and New York Yankees fan, pursuing a full-time career in the sports industry.

 James Buzzone, Jersey City. For the past 11 years, Buzzone has made a living selling business software, however, his true passion is found in debating the sports issues of the day. Buzzone wants to fulfill his dream of going from caller to host on WFAN.

 Patrick Creighton, Bethpage, N.Y. Creighton is making his third consecutive appearance in the WFAN Fantasy Phenom finals. He is a graduate of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, and a lifelong fan of the Giants, Mets, Islanders and Knicks.

 James Flippin, Montclair. Flippin is a 2010 graduate of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. A lifetime WFAN listener, Flippin is thrilled to be a finalist in the “Fantasy Phenom 3 Challenge.” He lists WFAN host Steve Somers as one of his greatest influences.

 Dan Girard, Great Neck, N.Y. A 2012 graduate of Syracuse University, Girard recalls his first memory of WFAN as a 4-yearold listening to the 1994 playoffs of the Rangers and Knicks. He is a diehard Mets, Jets, Rangers and Knicks fan, and prides himself on keeping track of everything New York sports.

A panel of judges, plus listener voting, will determine the grand prize winner. Listener voting will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 24 and continue at wfan.com through noon Aug. 27. Everyone is invited to see the competition and the show in person. There will be live music provided by The Smithereens throughout the afternoon of Aug. 24 at Bar A, according to the press release.
