The Korean Community Center of Greater Princeton will be having its 6th Annual KCCP Chuseok Gala on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Rider University Student Center in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. In keeping with this year’s theme, “Breaking New Ground,” this grassroots organization is fundraising to begin building a community center on land it purchased last year on Meadow Road in West Windsor. The KCCP began in 2007 by a dozen Korean-Americans and now has more than 100 founding members. All proceeds from the Chuseok gala will be used towards the goal of bringing a Korean community center to the more than 7,000 Korean-Americans in the Princeton area.
Appropriately, this year’s keynote speaker, Don H. Liu, Esq., Senior Vice President of Xerox Corporation, has broken new ground throughout his career. Mr.. Liu emigrated from Korea when he was ten years old. He received a BA degree from Haverford College and a JD degree from Columbia University School of Law. Prior to joining Xerox, Don Liu was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Toll Brothers. He has been recognized with the Legacy Diversity Award from the American Bar Association’s Council on Legal Education Opportunity and the Best Lawyers Under 40 award from the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
Mr. Liu has been on a one-man mission to break down the stereotype of Asians as nerdy individuals with calculators, as well as to break down what he calls the "the bamboo ceiling" in corporate America. It is his hope that, by making changes, Korean-Americans can become visionary leaders. Mr. Liu’s address will be of particular interest to students and recent graduates, as well as to those who already have begun their careers.
Dr. Yong Sup Sim, a first generation pioneer in his own right, will be recognized at the KCCP Gala as its Outstanding Member for his tireless support in helping to build a Korean Community Center. Dr. Sim is a retired professor from Mercer Community College and currently is a Board Member for their Foundation at the College.
Advanced Food Systems of Somerset, New Jersey, a long time supporter of our community at large, will be recognized as the Outstanding Friend of KCCP for its generous support throughout the years. For nearly 30 years, Advanced Food Systems has developed and manufactured customized ingredient systems for meat and poultry products, frozen foods, sauces and marinades, and many other products.
The 6th Annual Chuseok Gala begins at 6:00 p.m. with a reception and cocktail hour followed by dinner, entertainment, and presentations. For further information, please visit the KCCP website, http://www.kccprinceton.org/, or contact KCCP President, Mr. Minkyu Lee, PhD at 908-240-8196.
