A Manville resident was shot in the arm late Tuesday, and the shooting appears to have been intentional, police said.
The man, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital and treated and released.
The victim was shot at his home at the corner of West Camplain Road and South 5th Avenue while he was outside mowing his lawn, police said.
The Manville Police Department referred all inquiries about the shooting to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to a news release put out late Wednesday afternoon by Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Stuart A. Buckman and Manville police Chief Mark Peltack, detectives are continuing to search for the man who did the shooting.
At approximately 4:39 p.m., Manville police went to the victim’s residence on West Camplain Road on a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers found the 51-year-old victim with a single gunshot wound to his right arm.
The victim was taken by paramedics from Somerset Medical Center to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he was treated and released.
He was seen last night after returning from the hospital standing outside with his arm in a sling talking to neighbors.
The man told detectives that he was mowing his lawn when he was shot by an unknown male near the side of his residence. The victim only could describe the shooter as an unknown male, last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark jeans, police said.
Detectives are following leads to identify the shooter, police said. They are not releasing a possible motive to the shooting, but said they believe the victim was the intended target.
The following law enforcement agencies responded to assist in the investigation — the Manville Police Department, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Squad, Crime Scene Investigations and Forensic Units and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.
