LAMBERTVILLE — City police officer, Kenneth Housman, was honored at Monday night’s city City Council meeting for “heroic efforts” during a June 20 fire on Church Street.
An official proclamation recognizing his efforts was read aloud at the council meeting.
Officer Housman has received the police department’s Life Saving Award for his work during the fire.
On June 20, Officer Housman and his fellow patrolman, Joseph Weber, responded to a fire call at 11 Church St.
The proclamation states that, “due to the heroic actions of Patrolman Housman, the building was immediately evacuated and the fire was extinguished, saving the lives of Hannah Torres, Robert Wilson, Joey DeJesus, Doreen Brown and Diane Sowers, and saving the building structure.”
Patrolman Housman “acted in spite of considerable danger to himself,” the proclamation notes.
The document concludes that “Patrolman Housman and the members of the Lambertville Police Department are further recognized for their daily contributions, fostering the sense of community and making the streets of the City of Lambertville safe with every call to duty.”
ALSO at Monday’s meeting, officials said, council awarded a bid for Ely Creek flood gates to Waters and Bugbee of Hamilton.
The amount of the bid is $130,885.
A proposed ordinance creating a handicapped parking space at 66 Church St. was introduced and is expected to scheduled for a public hearing and adoption vote at the council’s September meeting.
Adopted Monday was an ordinance creating a loading zone on the north side of Swan Street.
