The Monmouth Civic Chorus invites singers to a “Summer Sing” of the delightful “Gloria” by Antonio Vivaldi. The Sing is on Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the air-conditioned Red Bank Charter School, 58 Oakland St., Red Bank. The admission fee of $5 at the door includes refreshments and score loan. No advance reservations are needed.
The Sing is an opportunity to get to know the award-winning Monmouth Civic Chorus and its new Artistic Director, Dr. Ryan Brandau. Dr. Brandau holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the Yale School of Music, an MPhil in historical musicology from the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom), and a Bachelor of Arts in music from Princeton University. He returns to the New York/New Jersey area from California, where he was the Artistic Director of the Santa Clara Chorale and the Director of Choral Activities and faculty member at Santa Clara University. Dr. Brandau was recently appointed Artistic Director of Princeton Pro Musica and will be working with the Symphonic Choir of Westminster Choir College.
Singers are invited to audition for the Monmouth Civic Chorus 2012-13 season, which features the Christmas portion of Handel’s “Messiah” along with the Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and light holiday music in December; I Have a Dream in March, honoring the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s iconic speech and the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation; and the lovely Duruflé Requiem in May.
Audition appointments are available on Wednesday evenings in Red Bank beginning in September. Singers may sit in on a rehearsal and get acquainted before they audition. For membership information, call 732-933-9333 or visit www.monmouthcivicchorus.org.
