Police arrested a township man Tuesday afternoon that they believe broke into and burglarized a Deerberry Lane home Monday night.
Police charged Shawn Foster, 41, of the township with burglary and theft following a motor vehicle stop on Revere Road at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from the department.
According to police, the resident of the Deerberry Lane home arrived back at the residence from work around 6:30 p.m. Monday to find that the home had been broken into and jewelry and cash missing.
Detective Dan Olsson and patrol officers on the scene were able to locate two witnesses that saw a man by the window of the home earlier in the day, police said.
One of the witnesses was able to give police the license plate number of the black Mercedes the man left in, which was registered to a Vineland woman, police said.
Police Sgt. Scott Reeves saw the vehicle in the Deans Pond Crossing development the next afternoon and pulled it over, according to police.
Mr. Foster was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant out of Middlesex County for unpaid child support, according to police.
A search of the vehicle discovered several of the items reported stolen from the Deerberry Lane home, including $3,000 cash, a checkbook and mail, according to police.
”Time and time again I point to our partnership with the community that creates positive outcome in cases,” Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka said in the release. “These residents were attentive to their new neighbor’s home and reported what they saw. They provided the crucial lead that allowed officers to track the suspect down in less than 24 hours.”
