A 49-year-old Bunker Hill Road resident has been charged with several counts of theft and two counts of motor vehicle theft in connection with a rash of thefts over the past few weeks, according to police Lt. Mark Ubry.
Lawrence police detectives arrested Darryl Jester at his Bunker Hill Road home and charged him with the offenses on Aug. 21, he said.
The two cars he allegedly stole have been recovered. Police are looking into whether he was involved in the theft of a third car, which has also been recovered.
Mr. Jester allegedly stole a 2011 Ford Flex from its owner’s driveway on Lawrence Road between Aug. 18 and Aug. 19. The car had been left unlocked and the keys were in the car. It was recovered Aug. 21 in the parking lot of The Crossings, an apartment complex Ewing Township, said Lt. Ubry.
He also has been charged with the theft of a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis from a Garry Court residence that occurred between Aug. 8 and Aug. 9, after it had been left unlocked by its owner and with the keys in it. It was also recovered in the parking lot at The Crossings, said Lt. Ubry.
Police are looking into whether Mr. Jester was involved in the theft of a 201 Hyundai Accent that was stolen from a Lawrence Road resident between July 22 and July 23. The keys had been left in the car, which was later recovered on Misty Morn Lane, near The Crossings.
The other theft charges stem from break-ins of five cars that had been left unlocked in their owners’ driveways on Eggerts Crossing Road between Aug. 16 and Aug. 17, Lt. Ubry said. Change and assorted items were taken from the cars.
