New Jersey Historical Commission awards grants

The New Jersey Historical Commission has approved $2.33 million in Fiscal Year 2013 general operating support grants to 75 historical organizations, museums, historic sites, archives and libraries throughout the state.

The funding represents the largest annual grant appropriation given by the historical commission, according to a press release.

“This financial support reaffirms our commitment to New Jersey’s historical organizations and their important programs,” said Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, who serves concurrently as Secretary of State. “It also recognizes the impact these organizations have on economic growth and job creation.” The general operating support program is designed to help historical organizations care for collections and provide educational programs and services relating to state history.

It also allows the historical commission to fulfill its mission to enrich the lives of New Jerseyans by preserving the historical record and advancing interest in, and awareness of, New Jersey’s past.

The New Jersey Historical Commission’s grant programs are determined through an independent, third-party peer review process.

General operating support funding is made possible by a portion of the revenue produced by the state’s hotel/motel tax legislation. The following grants were awarded:
