September programs at Red Bank library

RED BANK — The Red Bank Public Library is one of several host sites throughout the borough for the New Jersey Museum of Contemporary Art public art exhibition “HEADS,” which includes more than 50 large-scale paintings by Romanian artist Dumitru Gorzo.

Special Adult Department programs in September begin when Nancy Anderson, of Blackbird Learning Associates, returns to the library 7-8:45 p.m. Sept. 5, with the workshop “Job Search for the 40+ Worker.” This workshop is a hands-on session designed for individuals age 40 and older planning to change careers or re-enter the workforce. Anderson will discuss motivation; career and skills assessment tools; choice of resume format; and examination of job descriptions for key job skills and matches. She will also review networking skills, interviewing, and follow-up activities, as well as technological changes in the job search. Douglas L. Haviland, of Meridian Life Support Training, will conduct a free Family and Friends CPR training class at the library 7-9 p.m. Sept. 10. An emergency training professional, he will demonstrate the lifesaving CPR skills needed for helping infants, children and adults. Call Meridian Health at 732-776-4470 to register.

Join author Gilda Rogers and her “Write Now!” writing workshop returning to the Red Bank Public Library for the second year. If you are interested in writing but need a jump-start, this workshop is for you. You will discover your voice, learn the secrets of good writing, engage in fun writing exercises, and be guided through the writing process. Rogers is an award-winning journalist and published author. “Write Now!” is a free 10-month workshop for adults age 18 and over, meeting every second Wednesday of each month from Sept. 12 through June 12, 6:45-8:45 p.m. Registration is required. Free English as a Second Language classes for adults 18 and over are offered regularly at the library in partnership with Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County. “Drawing and Painting with Rocco Scibetta” will begin Sept. 13, 7-8:45 p.m., and will continue each Thursday evening through Sept. 27. This popular workshop is suitable for adults and students in the eighth grade and up. A materials list will be provided at the first class. Learn how to “Outsmart Your Smartphone” 10-11:30 a.m. Sept. 15 with librarian Erik Stevenson. Smartphones are everywhere, but because they are much more than just a phone, using them can be daunting. This free class will cover Android phones and Apple iPhones, smartphone terminology, and choosing a smartphone plan. Please register by visiting or calling the adult reference desk.

The River Read Poetry Series will make the Red Bank Public Library its new home with monthly meetings beginning Sept. 22, 2:30-4:30 p.m. The series features readings by notable poets and open mic poetry readings. The public is invited to this free program. No registration is required.

The Red Bank Public Library’s Acoustic Saturday music series begins its fall season on Sept. 29, 2-4 p.m. with a performance by The Wag, an upbeat fourpiece band noted for its vocal harmonies. They perform music ranging from blues to pop to rock. The library series is hosted by Anton Daub and takes place on the last Saturday of the month from September to November and January to May. This program is free and no registration is required.
