MANVILLE: Annual Elks clambake supports special kids

By Mary Ellen Day, Special Writer
Manville-Hillsborough Elks Lodge 2119 will hold its 21st annual clambake and barbecue to help support special needs children on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Elks Lodge on Brooks Boulevard.
For those who don’t like clams, you can enjoy barbecue foods of hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, kielbasa, ribs and salads. Normally the Elks go through 30 bushels of clams for this event — it is all you can eat and drink. More than 250 people usually attend the clambake, which over the years has raised more than $55,000.
The Manville-Hillsborough Elks supports children for treatment at the Somerset County Treatment Center in Bridgewater for weekly, biweekly or monthly therapy of physical, speech or vocational therapy. This year the Elks also sent local chilýPage=003 Column=001 OK,0004.07þ
dren to a week of summer camp at the Elks Camp Moore in north Jersey.
Tom Cronin, the chairman of the Event, and his crew will grill 80 pounds of chicken, 50 pounds of sausage and keep 12,000 clams coming. Elk members, families, friends and community members will be able to enjoy an afternoon of fun, music and good food. Clambake T-shirts will be for sale and entertainment will be by the Hog Finger band.
Tickets are $35 in advance from any Manville-
Hillsborough Elk member or at the lodge after 5 p.m. The cost is $40 at the door. For ages 10-17, tickets are $15 and younger than 10 are free. To get advance tickets, call the lodge at 908-725-1717.
A rain date is Sunday, Sept. 16.
