MARLBORO — The 29th annual Marlboro Day, a community celebration that welcomes residents of all towns, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Marlboro municipal complex, 1979 Township Drive, off Wyncrest Road.

In the event of rain, the date will be postponed until Sept. 23.

The celebration, which is free to the public, will provide residents and visitors with entertainment throughout the day, said Jane Gursky, chairwoman of the Marlboro Recreation and Parks Commission.

Amusements such as inflatable slides, bouncy rooms and mechanical rides will be available to youngsters, she said.

Three BMX bicycle shows will take place during the day. Representatives of local karate, theater, music and dance groups will also perform. Balloon artists and magicians will also provide entertainment.

About 80 merchants, including artists, crafters and business operators, will set up shop at Marlboro Day. Food vendors will offer a variety of foods such as sausage sandwiches and fried cookies. Municipal organizations will also have booths at the event.

“It is a thank you to our residents. It’s a sense of community,” Gursky said. “It brings all the people together in one location. They also get to learn about the township and what it has to offer.”

Shuttle buses will transport attendees to Marlboro Day from the Marlboro Middle School (Route 520), the Marlboro Public Library (Wyncrest Road), the Marlboro Recreation Community Center (Wyncrest Road) and the Marlboro Elementary School (School Road West).

The annual event usually draws about 15,000 attendees, Gursky said.

She said taxpayer money will not be used to pay for the Marlboro Day activities. Sponsors that will pick up the tab include Investors Bank, TD Bank, CentraState Healthcare System, Dance Attitudes, the Marlboro Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse, and several local businesses.
