EAST WINDSOR — Police have charged two teens with last week’s armed robbery of the Dollar Tree store.
The store is located in the East Windsor Towne Center on Route 130.
According to police, Michael Shawn Kee, 18, of Kellington Drive, and Malcolm Jamal Browne, 19, of Saint James Village, hid in the store on Aug. 27. Police said, when the Dollar Tree store closed, the men confronted two women store employees and threatened them with a large knife.
Police said that Mr. Kee and Mr. Browne then forced the victims to open the store’s safe and stole a quantity of cash from the safe.
The men then allegedly broke one of the victim’s cellular phones while opting to steal the other woman’s cell phone, according to police.
According to police, on Aug. 29, detectives charged Mr. Kee with armed robbery of the Dollar Tree store.
Police said Mr. Kee’s accomplice, Mr. Browne, was charged with robbery on Aug. 30.
In addition to robbery, Mr. Kee and Mr. Browne face weapons offenses, terroristic threats, theft and burglary charges.
Bail was set at $100,000 for both men and they were sent to the Mercer County Detention Center in lieu of bail.
The employees were uninjured during the robbery, police said.
