A Tree for Every Yard

The NJ Tree Foundation is giving away 200 trees to residents of Mercer County on a first come-first served basis. The trees will be available for pick up at Cadwalader Park entrance, Parkside & Bellevue Avenue, Trenton, NJ on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 9am n Noon Available species are Redbuds, Dogwoods and American Elms. Mercer County residents must fill out a simple application at: http://bit.ly/Ool9k4 to receive a tree Application deadline is 10/15/2012 or until all trees are gone. Limit of one tree per household.
Each tree is 4-5’ tall in a 2-gallon pot and will easily fit into a car. Trees are to be planted in a homeowner’s yard. Simple tree planting and care instructions will be provided.
About the trees: Redbud, Cercis Canadensis: A small growing, native tree. Height at maturity: 20-25’. Wide, heart-shaped leaves; small purple-pink flowers in late April n early May. Dogwood, Cornus florida: A small growing, native tree. Height at maturity: 30’. Oval leaves that turn red in the fall; small cream-colored flowers in mid-May. American elm, Ulmus Americana: A large, vase-shaped tree reaching 60-75’ tall at maturity. Great for shade. Please do not plant under utility wires.
The NJ Tree Foundation is a state-wide, non-profit organization dedicated to planting trees in NJ’s most urban cities where the need is greatest. Trees for Trenton, Inc. is a volunteer based non-profit organization working with local civic organizations and schools to plant trees throughout Trenton. Plant One Million is a regional partnership between the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, NJ Tree Foundation and the Delaware Center for Horticulture. The goal of the partnership is to plant one million trees throughout 13 counties in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
