MANVILLE: Blotter of police activity, week of Sept. 3-9

   Detective Sgt. Ron Gazaway stopped a vehicle on South Main Street at 11:37 p.m. Sept. 1 and later charged a 19-year-old Manville man with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and three counts of possession of paraphernalia. He was also issued three motor vehicle summonses before being released.

   A South 13th Avenue woman came to headquarters at 9:31 a.m. Sept. 4 to report a fraudulent withdrawal of $503 on her credit card from the ATM at the Bank of America in Manville at 1:38 a.m. that day. The credit card was canceled. An investigation continues.

   A North 13th Avenue woman said at 10:39 a.m. Sept. 4 that she had received a phone call from a company by the name of  “Total Care” offering to give her free braces if she provided health care information. Police advised her not to give information and to contact her health care provider.

   Nicola Brunett of Veterans Affairs came to headquarters at 10:55 a.m. Sept. 4 to ask an officer to stand by while he spoke to Tanisha Lindsey, 22, of a South 3rd Avenue apartment regarding residency issues. Ms. Lindsey was subsequently charged with trespassing, obstruction and resisting arrest. She was taken to Somerset County Jail in lieu of bail of $1,000. The landlord secured the apartment.

   At 1:18 p.m. Sept. 4, a man reported his license plate stolen from the Adesa Auto Auction lot on North Main Street between July 14 and 20.

   A woman called at 2:13 p.m. Sept. 4 to say a couch had been sitting on the sidewalk for an extended amount of time. The DPW said the couch wasn’t trash and any complaints should be directed to the property maintenance officer at Borough Hall.

   A North 10th Avenue woman came to headquarters at 6:14 p.m. Sept. 4 to say she was receiving additional fraudulent charges using her Social Security number, originally reported in March.

   A patrol officer was flagged down at 8:21 a.m. Sept. 5 and told about a man and woman from West Camplain Road who allegedly had taken a shopping cart from Walmart. The man and woman were advised to return it.

   A caller at 11:07 a.m. Sept. 5 said that between Aug. 24 and 27 someone removed a lock on an exterior shed at his business property on Manville Avenue and took a 24-by-28-inch stainless steel cart he valued at $3,000.

   A caller came to headquarters at 12:49 p.m. Sept. 5 to say that his recently installed “no parking at any time” sign and post were taken from the front of a Pope Street address. He valued the loss at $70. A new sign was to be installed.

   A caller at 1:52 p.m. Sept. 5 said there was a suspicious backpack left unattended inside McDonald’s restaurant. It had been mistakenly left behind by a customer and was picked up before patrols could arrive.

   A caller came to headquarters at 3:53 p.m. Sept. 5 to report finding one Remington shotgun round at his father’s house and wanted the item destroyed. Police took it for destruction.

   Police assisted at the site of a small plane crash at Central Jersey Airport in Hillsborough at 11:32 a.m. Sept. 6.

   A South 11th Avenue man came to headquarters at 12:36 p.m. Sept. 6 to report a possible scam on a dating website, “Dating Hookup.” He was told to send $3,000 for a doctor’s payment for a friend he met online, but didn’t. He was advised to contact the website.

   A man who said he was the executor for the estate reported someone was doing unauthorized home improvements at a Dominic Street address at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 6. He was advised to contact family members. At 11:35 the next morning the same man reported an unwanted suspicious man in front of the residence. Patrols responded and reported a misunderstanding between the man and a contractor.

   A caller at 5:51 p.m. Sept. 6 reported finding a cooler in Lincoln Park with bones in it. The DPW was to remove a decomposed dog’s remains in the morning.

   White paint was sprayed on the Weston School blacktop playground, said Principal Donald Frank at 8:46 a.m. Friday.

   At 11:26 a.m. Friday, Adesa Auto Auction reported recovering a stolen vehicle on its North Main Street lot.

* * *

   Police responded at 7:36 p.m. Friday to a Lincoln Avenue apartment, where the resident said he had noticed about $50 in coins missing. He thought it happened between 7 a.m. the previous day and 7 p.m. that night. He said there was no forced entry into the apartment.

   Police responded to four burglar alarms between 8:43 a.m. and 12:54 p.m. Saturday.

* * *

   An anonymous caller reported a group of 10 juveniles without helmets riding bicycles at 5:38 p.m. Sunday. Patrol responded and told the kids of the complaint. They said they would comply.

   Police took an intoxicated man reportedly lying in the parking lot of the VFW on Washington Avenue to Somerset Medical Center at 11:13 p.m. Sunday.
