WEST AMWELL: Linksmen to gather for annual moneymaker

By John Tredrea, Special Writer
WEST AMWELL — Set to be held this fall for the seventh time is the annual West Amwell Golf Day, which has grown into quite a successful fundraising event for West Amwell Elementary and South Huntedon Regional High schools.
”We raised less than $1,000 during the first Golf Day,” said Paula Kauth one of the organizers of the event. “We raised over $12,000 last year and hope to do even better this year.”
Proceeds of the Golf Day benefit programs at the two schools.
”The funds in the past have been used to help pay for items such as a new playground, new technology equipment and science enrichment programs,” Ms. Kauth said.
This year’s West Amwell Golf Day is set for Oct. 15 at Copper Hill Country Club in Ringoes.
The fee to play is $150 per player. That includes green fees, cart fees, breakfast, lunch, beer/wine and prizes.
The outing is a Scramble format and welcomes any level of golfer. It will get under way with a 9 a.m. shot-gun start. Those who want to participate can sign up by visitingwww.westamwellgolfday.com — a new website.
Golf Day was started by a group of local parents — Paula and Bobby Kauth, Howard Young, Monica Paerg and Eric Swayhoover. “It’s all-volunteer,” Ms. Kauth said. “We are part of the committee that puts on Golf Day.”
She said the event has been well supported by area businesses and residents who have donated funds toward Golf Day. “I’d like to thank all the sponsors that have continued to support us year after year,” Ms. Kauth said.
Silver Sponsors have donated $600 toward Golf Day. For 2012, those sponsors are Dun Rite Pool, River Valley Realty, Borden Perlman, The Bank of Princeton, Richard E. Yard Plumbing & Heating and ShopRite of Hunterdon.
Any local business or organization interested in participating as a sponsor, should contact Ms. Paerg at [email protected] or 397-9438, Ms. Kauth said.
”You can go to our website to see a full list of our sponsors and get more information about Golf Day,” she added.
