New Hope, PA – Travis Gallery will present the work of fine artists Michael Budden and César A. Jerez, October 6-27, at 6089 Lower York Rd., New Hope, PA.
Michael Budden describes his work as Impressionistic Realism – with a finishing brushstroke. Michael Budden’s awards include the 2009 Alden Bryan Memorial Award for Traditional Landscape in Oil, the 2008 Purchase Award for the "Flatiron" and the 2012 First Prize Laumiester Fine Art Competition for "Foggy Evening, Brooklyn Bridge."
"It was a challenge to paint and not paint the bridge," says NJ resident Budden. Setting the structure, then the mood and misty scene, was paramount alongside Budden’s philosophy, that he, "paints from the heart."
César A. Jerez has a degree is Business Management from William Paterson University, Wayne, NJ and studied human anatomy and oil painting at the Art Students League, NYC and Ridgewood Art Institute, Ridgewood, NJ.
Landscapes, seascapes, still life’s and figurative’s are his subjects; harmoniously dovetailing life with light is Jerez’ simplistic, yet fundamentally correct manner. Although a self-proclaimed Abstract Realist, in his work, where does the abstract appear? "Strange term," says Jerez, who is also a Jersey resident. "You have to abstract what you see. Up close, take the essence; step back, it becomes real."
Budden and Jerez met at an arts festival in Easton, MD and subsequently decided to spend a summer plein air painting on Monhegan Island, Maine. Now colleagues, as well as friends, their exhibit at Travis Gallery will feature PA and NJ landscapes as well as Budden’s NY cityscapes.
