CRANBURY – Kim Borden and Pramod Chivate were officially sworn in at the Cranbury Township Board of Education meeting on Sept 11.
Ms. Borden and Dr. Chivate are replacing former members Kathy Wasson and Nicole Pormilli, who resigned from the panel earlier this year.
Business Administrator Joyce Picariello read the Oath of Office to both new members.
”It’s my honor to (swear you in),” Ms. Picariello said before administering the oath.
Ms. Borden and Dr. Chivate received certificates from the board with the oath confirming their officially taking office.
During the oath, Ms. Borden and Dr. Chivate swore that they possessed the qualifications laid out in the law to be members of the board.
The new members also swore to “faithfully, impartially, and justly” perform the duties expected of them to the best of their ability.
”We congratulate you and welcome aboard,” Ms. Picariello told the pair.
The rest of the members welcomed Ms. Borden and Dr. Chivate, with Board President Lynne Schwarz sharing her first board meeting experience with them.
According to Ms. Schwarz, during her first board meeting, she was trained with a new member who happened to be the board president.
”We have great things to do this year,” Ms. Schwarz said.
According to Chief School Administrator Susan Genco, both of the new members bring a diverse set of skills and talents that she believes will benefit Cranbury.
”I look forward to a positive and fruitful working relationship and would like to thank them for their willingness to serve,” Dr. Genco said previously, also welcoming them officially to the “team.”
The two new members will eventually be assigned to several of the different committees that the board runs, including policy, curriculum, facilities, and personnel.
According to Ms. Borden and Dr. Chivate, they are looking forward to being part of the board and helping the Cranbury School reach the next level.
In July, Ms. Picariello sent out a notice to residents, asking them to submit their letters of interest to her by Aug. 10.
The new Board members were announced at the Aug. 21 meeting.
Dr. Chivate is an executive director at Morgan Stanley and has two children in the Cranbury School.
Ms. Borden is a former human resources director for PricewaterhouseCoopers and is currently a stay-at-home mother with two children in the district.
According to Dr. Chivate, he ran for the board in 2011, but lost to incumbents Evelyn Spann, Kevin Fox, and Jennifer Cook.
Because the meeting was their first, Ms. Borden and Dr. Chivate had to abstain from several different motions, such as the approval of the minutes.
At the meeting, the board appointed Kevin Fox as Chair of Curriculum, replacing Ms. Pormilli.
