High winds and rain moving through the township Tuesday provided little more than an annoyance, according to officials.
Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka said Wednesday that the town fared pretty well with only a few falling trees and brief power outages as a band of strong storms blew through during the day and evening.
State emergency officials placed the entire state under a tornado watch for most of Tuesday, and also warned of high winds during the period as the cold front made its way through the region.
Only sporadic power outages were reported, mainly on the eastern side of the township, and some trees also buckled in the 45 m.p.h. gusts of wind during the evening.
A section of Route 27 south of the Route 518 intersection had to be closed due to one tree landing on power lines on the opposite side of the road, causing crews to divert traffic until PSE&G workers could arrive and remove it.
According to the National Weather Service warnings, the band of storms was more like something you would see later in the fall season than in September.
Last year, both Hurricane Irene and a freak late October snowstorm caused havoc with falling trees and widespread power outages throughout the municipality.
