BROAD COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP CONTINUES TO THRIVE AND GROW
Poised to Present 2ND Annual Canal Festival to Benefit Franklin Township Food Bank
Saturday, October 6,2012 at 11:00am – 5:00pm
Somerset, NJ – September 24, 2012 – The CanalFest Community Collaborative was formed in early 2011 with the vision of strengthening the local community in three ways; helping our neighbors in need, raising the profile of area businesses and community organizations, and bringing friends and neighbors together in the spirit of celebration. That vision was realized last year with the birth of the Delaware and Raritan Canal Festival (CanalFest), which will hold the event gain on October 6th, 2012. CanalFest was established under the organizational umbrella of the Franklin Township Food Bank and was built around the community’s greatest environmental asset, the Delaware and Raritan Canal. According to Michael Steinbruck, an event co-founder and co-chair, “everything came together with the food bank as an anchor and the canal as a focal point. Now as we approach our second event, we are seeing an increasing number of residents, businesses, community organizations, and government all pitching in to make the event possible. It is really exciting”.
Patti Scott, a Franklin Township resident and event sponsor, remarked "we are all healthier, happier and safer when we are part of a community that welcomes the diverse gifts of all of it’s members.  Canal Fest offers a unique opportunity to come together and share in the gifts of our community – to eat good food, appreciate arts and crafts, enjoy music, get to know our neighbors, and give back by supporting our local food bank.  And, it’s big fun!"
The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 11am – 5pm at East Millstone Park (Amwell Road & Market Street) with live musical performances by The East MillSTONES, The Awful Truth, Billy, Some Like It Hot Club, Collin Rocker, and Madeline Smith. A suggested donation of $10 will go directly to the food bank.
