Manville’s annual Community Day brought out residents for fun, food and socializing. The weather was perfect for the people who attended the event Saturday at Lincoln Park in Lost Valley.
Sponsored by the mayor and Borough Council, Recreation Department, Manville Public Works and the Manville Municipal Alliance, Community Day was started in 2000 by the mayor and council and the Recreation Department as a way to bring the town back together after being hit by Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Each year is bringing more residents out for a fun-filled day.
Mayor Angelo Corradino attended Community Day and was very happy with the event.
”I want to thank everybody who participated in Community Day. I just want to say one thing about Rich Armstrong and Stephanie Cornelson, they were the co-chairs along with Kenny (Otrimski), Eddie (Komoroski) and Phil (Petrone), and they did a fantastic job,” the mayor said. “They put that together in the matter of two months. They did an outstanding job getting programs for kids, and getting food and everything set up. Everybody that attended had a great time. I can’t thank them enough for coordinating it. The weather cooperated with a fantastic day. I want to also thank the volunteers who were there.”
There were many things to do for the afternoon at Community Day. Manville First Aid and Rescue Squad, Manville Police Department, Manville Fire companies, Office of Emergency Management, CERT, Manville Board of Education, Boy Scout Troop 193 and Walgreens all set up displays for the residents to visit. Residents brought their own T-shirt to be tie dyed blue and gold by high school volunteers.
Activities were planned throughout the day. There were moon bounces for the kids and an egg toss. The firemen served up freshly popped popcorn and food was plentiful during the event as the volunteers cooked up hamburgers and hot dogs and music was provided by Chris Gosk, so the tunes rocked throughout the afternoon.
