South Brunswick High School distributed Homecoming Court nomination packets Sept. 20 during first block classes to the specific seniors nominated for the honor.
SBHS faculty was asked at the end of the 2011-2012 school year to nominate rising seniors for the Homecoming court lineup.
They were asked to pick students that they felt exhibited SBHS’s five core values of respect, responsibility, service, kindness, and honesty according to Student Council Advisor Kelly Boyer.
”After students were nominated (before Homecoming nomination packets were distributed) we checked students’ disciplinary record and spoke to their grade-level principals,” Ms. Boyer said.
According to Ms. Boyer, approximately 40 females and 30 males were nominated to be members of the Homecoming Court. Ms. Boyer said that students nominated clearly demonstrate the “Strive for Five” concept and are well-rounded students.
Homecoming Court petition packets are due to the Activities Office by 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 28 according to Ms. Boyer.
All nominees accepting the nomination must write a 200-word biography in the third person about themselves including activities, clubs, and athletics they are involved in.
Students may also include honors and awards they have received throughout high school in the biography. The biographies will then be read aloud at the Homecoming Game during half time if the student is chosen to be in the Court.
”Once students have handed in their packets they will be on the ballot,” Ms. Boyer said.
Seniors will have the opportunity to vote for the members of the court on Oct. 4 during their lunches.
Seniors must bring their student I.D. cards to be eligible to vote.
