EAST WINDSOR — On Monday, Sept. 24, at approximately 3:52 p.m., members of the Police Department responded to a reported motor vehicle crash on Route 33 eastbound involving a juvenile pedestrian.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a driver was traveling east on Route 33 — between Lake Drive and Twin Rivers Drive — when the 13-year-old juvenile attempted to cross the highway from the south side, police said in a press release on the incident.
According to police, the East Windsor teen ran into the path of a Mazda, driven by Leigh Tsujino, 48, of Freehold, and subsequently collided with the vehicle.
The juvenile was transported via ambulance to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick for lower leg and other injuries, police said.
Ms. Tsujino was uninjured.
Assisting emergency agencies included East Windsor Volunteer Rescue District II and Capital Health System Paramedics.
Eastbound Route 33 traffic was closed for approximately 1-hour and 20 minutes while the scene was cleared, police said.
As of press time on Thursday, the matter remained under investigation by the East Windsor Police Department Traffic Safety Unit and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team.
Also, as of Thursday afternoon, no charges have been filed.
