An alleged prostitute accused of having sex at a Princeton University Store with an employee could be indicted as her case moves to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
Brittany Smith, 20, made her initial appearance Monday afternoon in Borough Municipal Court to have a judge read the charges Borough Police filed against her last week.
Ms. Smith, arrested Sept. 25, was charged with prostitution, shoplifting, possession of 11 Adderall tablets and possession of a marijuana pipe.
The drug possession charge is a third-degree offense, municipal court judge Bonnie L. Goldman told her, so the prosecutor’s office will review the case to determine whether to seek an indictment. The judge told her that the prosecutor’s office could decide to return the case to municipal court.
Ms. Smith, a Keyport resident attending Brookdale Community College, left the courtroom declining to comment.Police allege that a former store employee, Eric Everett, 23, of Chesterfield, met Ms. Smith through the Internet site Craigslist and paid her $250 to have sex with him inside the store’s University Place location during after-store hours. Authorities have said they are aware of three such encounters, also claiming that both of them shoplifted food and beverage items from the store. Mr. Everett was fired, according to store president Jim Sykes.
There was no information Monday about a court date for Mr. Everett.
