Hillsborough High School will host 1970s singer and actress Melba Moore visited with students Friday, Sept. 28, as part of the third annual “Back to School with The HistoryMakers” program.
The program’s goal is to encourage students to commit to excellence and to commit to finishing their education. Ms. Moore, whose biggest vocal hit was “This Is It,” recounted her own school experiences and struggles on her path to success.
Hundreds of African American HistoryMakers across the nation will take part in the program with a goal to encourage students to commit to excellence and to finish their education.
While Ms. Moore was at the high school, she sang “Love Is,” a single from her new album, “Forever Moore.” She also led students in reciting the “commit” pledge.
Schools participating in the event will receive a free one-year membership for the digital African American video oral archive, which includes interviews with 310 individuals.
To date, the organization has interviewed more than 2,000 HistoryMakers, with the goal of creating an archive of 5,000 interviews (30,000 hours) for the digital archive.
