HILLSBOROUGH: School health contract figures are clarified

Percentage increase for the change in health benefits plans voted by the township Board of Education on Sept. 24 and reported in the Sept. 28 Beacon were not quite correct.
If the school stayed in the “state health plan,” it would have seen an increase of 15 percent on Jan. 1, said member Greg Gillette. With the newly chosen Horizon, the increase will be just 9.2 percent, he said.
For dental, the premium is actually decreasing by 15.2 percent through Dec. 31, 2013, not just going up less, he said.
Factoring in health and dental together, the school was looking at an overall increase of more than 15 percent. After the vote, the combined premium increase will be less than 8 percent, he said.
