Kindergarten students at Christ the King School in Manville enjoyed celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day on Sept. 26. The children listened to stories about the American legend and watched teacher Melissa Grecco slice into apples to reveal the flesh, core and seeds. The students identified the parts, discussed the life cycle of apples and conducted an apple taste test, graphing the results to discover that McIntosh apples were unanimously the class favorite. The class measured, scooped and mixed to make apple pies. The students anxiously waited for the pies to bake and cool before enjoying delicious apple pie a la mode they baked themselves.
