The launch of the Pink Ribbon Program at Neurac Institute is timely as October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Physical Therapy Month.
PRINCETON, NJ — August 2012 — Neurac Institute, a leader in neuromuscular rehabilitation, fitness and sports performance, offers the Pink Ribbon Program designed specifically for breast cancer survivors. Dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle and positive body image to all breast cancer survivors, The Pink Ribbon Program aids in stretching and strengthening the shoulder, chest, back and abdominal muscles, allowing women to regain full range of motion in all areas affected by breast cancer surgery. It also enhances energy levels, decreases stress and tension, and improves self-confidence. While this rehabilitation program can begin when the survivor is six weeks past her surgery and has received a doctor’s approval to begin gentle exercise, it is still beneficial if started several years after surgery.
At the Neurac Institute, the Pink Ribbon Program is offered by Patti Haggerty – a certified post-rehabilitative, breast cancer exercise specialist, as well as Pilates and Redcord Fitness Trainer. Sessions are conducted in a separate exercise room affording a level of privacy. Clients can progress to Pilates and Redcord, also offered at Neurac Institute as one-on-one and duet wellness sessions. For more information, contact the Neurac Institute at http://www.neuracpt.com.
Founded just six years ago, by an exercise physiologist and breast cancer survivor, the Pink Ribbon Program has trained and certified more than 400 instructors in the US, Australia and Europe. Many of these instructors are physical therapists, occupational therapists and Pilates instructors.
“In the past, doctors had no proven program to recommend to their patients and generally only recommended rest for breast cancer survivors,” states Patti Haggerty of the Neurac Institute. “And exercise is probably the last thing patients feel like doing after treatment and surgery. But recent studies indicate a link between moderate physical exercise and improved quality of life. Exercise has many, many benefits, but the most important is to be proactive in regaining the functional mobility you had before surgery. Not to mention, the empowerment, self-esteem and well-being that goes with it on the long road from diagnosis, through surgery and into recovery. Helping breast cancer survivors achieve these benefits and gain back some control over their situation is the best part of my job at the Neurac Institute,” states Haggerty.
The Neurac Institute will be offering a complimentary Pink Ribbon one-on-one consultation and session during October for all breast cancer survivors. Subsequent Pink Ribbon sessions will be offered at a reduced price.
