Divers searched Lake Carnegie into night Tuesday without finding a man reported being in the water that afternoon, township police said.
As of Wednesday, authorities had no new details about the case, which began around 4:55 p.m. Tuesday when a motorist crossing the Harrison Street Bridge contacted police about seeing a white man wearing dark clothes in the lake. Sgt. Michael Cifelli said Wednesday that initial report has been corroborated, although he could not elaborate.
Local first responders arrived to the scene but did not locate anyone, police said. The Trenton Fire Department Dive was called in, again without finding anybody. The search was called off around 8:30 p.m. “due to deteriorating weather conditions and out of safety concerns for the rescuers involved,” police said in a press release.
Police said there are no missing person reports of anyone fitting the description of the man. No items were found at the scene, police said.
”We’re investigating every possibility,” Sgt. Cifelli said.
The water in that section of the lake is about 6 to 7 feet deep, with a silt and mud base, Sgt. Cifelli said.
