By Diane Hasili
The University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, caterer Morrison, and jazz trio, The Franklin and Alison Orchestra, join the YWCA Princeton for a special evening, “Cocktails for a Cause,” for its Annual Pearl Bates Scholarship Benefit on Thursday, November 1 from 6 – 9 pm.
The evening will be one in which to feast, revel, indulge, and discover. The event will feature delicious cuisine by the caterer Morrison, the official food service provider of the University Medical Center. Guests will be treated to gourmet hors d’oeuvres including a mashed potato bar, tenderloin station, and a grilled vegetable crudité. Cool jazz sounds will be provided by the outstanding jazz trio, The Franklin and Alison Orchestra.
Guests will also be treated to fine wines and signature cocktails while bidding on tempting offerings in silent auction, including an overnight stay and dinner for two in Atlantic City; four VIP tickets to see a live taping of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart; and tickets to the off-Broadway show STOMP.
Those who attend “Cocktails for a Cause” will receive a complimentary ticket to the YWCA’s other Bates Scholarship fundraiser, the Crafters’ Marketplace. This juried show features more than 130 artisans in a show of upscale wearable art, pottery, glass, jewelry, and much more. It will be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 17 and 18, at John Witherspoon Middle School in Princeton.
Proceeds from the Bates Scholarship Benefit and the Crafters’ Marketplace weekend benefit the Pearl Bates Scholarship Fund at the YWCA Princeton, which enables women and families in financial need to participate in YWCA programs and services including English as a Second Language, adapted dance and aquatics, child care, and more.
Tickets to “Cocktails for a Cause” are $100 and include the benefit on November 1, entrance to the  Crafters’ Marketplace on November 17 & 18, and a complimentary lunch at the Newcomers’ Café on November 17 & 18. Event tickets may be purchased by calling (609) 497-2100 ext. 333.
