SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Magazine honors local activist

   Tricia Baker of South Brunswick was honored at New Jersey Monthly’s Seeds of Hope ceremony on Sept. 12 at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston, according to a press release from the magazine,
   The event was sponsored by PNC Wealth Management and The Crystal Plaza.
   Ms. Baker was recognized for her outstanding work with Attitudes in Reverse (A.I.R.), an organization dedicated to educating society about mental health, preventing suicide, and encouraging others to seek help for emotional or psychological problems, according to the release.
   She started the organization after her son Kenny, who was diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder at 15, committed suicide at age 19.
   Ms. Baker’s community service also includes teaching workshops on animal-assisted therapy, according to the release.
   She was honored alongside other community activists including, Katie Meyler (More Than Me Foundation), Herb Ouida (Todd Ouida’s Children Foundation), Abby Hoffman (Elijah’s Promise), and Ellen Smith (Hackensack University Medical Center’s Hospital Elder Life Program or HELP) at the Seeds of Hope luncheon.
   The event is an annual gathering held to salute individuals for outstanding achievement in philanthropy and volunteer service to their communities or to their chosen causes, according to the release.
   ”Seeds of Hope is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to those who have made a true commitment to helping others,” Ken Schlager, editor of New Jersey Monthly, said in the release.
