Thursday January 26, the New Brunswick Jazz Project will present acclaimed trombone master, Rutgers’ own, Conrad Herwig. Conrad will be leading an all star quintet in a pre-recording concert at Makeda. Conrad, considered one of the world’s complete jazz musicians, sits atop both the performing and jazz educational fields. In addition, he has an abundance of composer and arranger credits. To date, he has released more than 20 recordings as a leader and contributed to nearly 200 other recording sessions with some of the most notable artists in jazz. He has performed and recorded with Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Frank Sinatra, Joe Lovano and Tom Harrell, among many others.
Conrad has assembled an extraordinary quintet —each musician a talented, respected jazz leader in his own right, as well as a much in demand sideman. At some point in the past two years, NBJP has presented each member of the quintet in various combinations and locations. Ralph Bowen, Orrin Evans, Kenny Davis and Donald Edwards all bring with them stellar jazz performance and recording credentials—far too many to include here. However, an easy web search will give you a glimpse into the many accomplishments of these extraordinary musicians. Thursday will be a jazz night brought to you by a group of some of the most powerful, passionate, gifted musicians on the jazz scene today.
