The Oct. 16 deadline is approaching for new voters who want to register to vote in the general election.
All U.S. citizens at least 18 years old by Election Day, Nov. 6, and not incarcerated, on probation or parole, are eligible to register provided they have lived in the state and county for at least 30 days.
New voters may register at the municipal clerk’s office in the town in which they reside.
The following are the hours for the municipal clerk’s offices in The Messenger-Press circulation area.
* Robbinsville: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
* Allentown: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
* Upper Freehold: 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday to Thursday (closed Fridays).
* Plumsted: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
* Millstone: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.
In Monmouth County, residents may also register at the Monmouth County Voter Registration Office, 300 Halls Mills Road, Freehold Township, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Tuesday, Oct. 16 the office will remain open until 9 p.m.
New voters can also register by mail (registration application must be postmarked Oct. 16 or earlier). To register by mail, or save time when registering in person, download the New Jersey new voter registration application. Monmouth County residents can find the voter registration application on the county clerk’s section of the Monmouth County website at www.visitmonmouth.com.
Residents of Mercer or Ocean counties can go to their county clerk’s website or the the state Division of Elections website at http://nj.gov/state/elections/voting-information.html where the links for voter registration applications are listed for each county.
The same state Division of Elections website also has electronic links that enable people to determine if they are already registered to vote and also locate their polling place.
