Jersey Harmony Chorus has selected Anita Barry of Hillsborough as its 2012 Woman of Note.
Ms. Barry has been a Sweet Adeline for more than 40 years, starting with the former Queen City Chorus in Plainfield, then with the former Somerset Valley Chorus, which merged with the Millstone Valley Chorus to form the Jersey Harmony Chorus.
Through the years she’s worn multiple “hats” many times. She has been president (team leader) and held positions on chorus boards, chaired numerous committees. She is JHC’s bass section leader, serves on the music team, serves as our regional contact, and works with events on the regional staff.
She has sung on the international stage both as a chorus and quartet member. In the 1970’s, Ms. Barry sang with “Sound Express,” a quartet that won the regional competition in 1978 and competed internationally twice. As a dual member, she has more recently competed with Hickory Tree chorus on the international stage in Hawaii as well as the Harmony Classic in Houston.
Each chorus gets to select their own Woman of Note as a person who has done considerable service over their years musically and administratively and demonstrates the positive and admirable image of a Sweet Adeline member.
