HILLSBOROUGH: Manville Catholic school plans its first-ever reunion

It has been 37 years since the first class graduated from Christ the King School, and a new school alumni association is planning the first-ever whole school reunion for Friday, Oct. 26.
Paul Lobo, grandparent of a current Christ the King student, is the director of the newly founded association.
Mr. Lobo said he got involved in starting the alumni association because “we want to use the alumni association people to tell others about the school here in Manville and the developments that have happened over the last few years. We hope that they will tell their friends who have children about the school and, eventually, they become students here.”
The reunion will begin at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. There is no charge; the night is a chance to get together and see fellow classmates — many of whom have not been in contact for years.
There will be light refreshments, music and school tours led by current students. The evening will begin with greetings from Principal Christine Benson. Old photographs will be displayed to spark reminiscences.
A small committee has been assisting Mr. Lobo in getting the word out. Letters have been mailed to the parents of students who were still in town and to graduates if the committee had their current addresses.
There are still many graduates who have not been located, and Mr. Lobo wants these graduates to be a part of the alumni association even if they miss the event. If you know of a Christ the King School graduate from 1975 to 2012 who has not received information from the association, notify [email protected] or call 908-526-3541 to give information. You can also join them on Facebook at Christ the King School Manville NJ.
The committee also is looking for the teachers from those years.
Mr. Lobo is looking forward to the first event.
”It is a great occasion to come back and meet your classmates, reminisce about the good times back here in Manville,” Mr. Lobo said. “We expect some of the teachers to be here. It should be a great evening with some music and fellowship. We look forward to seeing you here.”
Mr. Lobo said this will be the first of, hopefully, many events for the alumni association.
”We hope that when the alumni come in and meet their fellow classmates, they would want to organize a reunion, perhaps at another venue for their specific class,” he said.
