Kids get chance to touch a firetruck
Manville students learned about their local fire departments Wednesday as part of Fire Prevention/Fire Safety Week when members of the three fire companies visited the schools in town.
The volunteers showed children the firetrucks up close and gave a short lesson on safety, equipment and what to do in a fire.
In the lower grades, students saw the turnout gear and learn the “stop, drop and roll” maneuver to put out clothing on fire.
Last night, firemen from all three companies participated in an open house at Firehouse No. 2 on North 13th Avenue.
All three companies’ trucks and boats were on display, and the “smokehouse,” which is a small simulated fire scene, was available so kids could learn how to get out of a house during an actual fire.
Visitors could learn how to put out a fire and be instructed how to use a fire extinguisher.
