MANVILLE: Police blotter, week of Oct. 1-7

   Police checked out footprints in the rear of a residence on Sidorskie Avenue at 8:19 a.m. Oct. 1. Patrol determined the numerous footprints were made to several residences from a PSE&G worker checking gas meters and there were no problems.

   A North 9th Avenue woman reported damage to her residence at 10 a.m. Oct. 1. Patrols found damage to the outer part of a glass storm window, possibly from a rock or bird.

   A Washington, N.J., man said at 4 p.m. Oct. 1 that he thought his vehicle was scratched and the radio possibly switched when the auto was repossessed and taken to Adesa Auto Auction on North Main Street. Patrols advised the man to contact the repossession company.

   A Knopf Street woman driver said she almost hit two kids, dressed in black, riding bicycles on Brooks Boulevard at 7:06 p.m. Oct. 1.

   County communications reported a rescue squad call at 9:24 p.m. Oct. 1 from the Bank of America for a bleeding man. Patrols found a 44-year-old South Main Street man who reported being assaulted by a man whose name he gave police. The victim was taken to Somerset Medical Center and advised of his right to sign complaints.

   A 91-year-old Pope Street woman reported at 12:37 p.m. Oct. 2 that she had sent about $23,000 to a woman in Connecticut to claim a fraudulent lottery prize. An investigation continues.

   Two Manville women were charged with shoplifting from Walmart on North Main Street in the afternoon of Oct. 3. Tennetie L. Jackson, 42, was released on a $500 bond. Nicole M. Bruno, 43, was taken to Somerset County Jail in default of bail.

   The rescue squad, mobile ICU and police responded to a call at 3:13 p.m. Oct. 3 for a man with a thumb amputation. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

   Police responded to a South Street call at 4:13 p.m. Oct. 3 and reported sometime in the overnight hours a downstairs tenant put a vibrator against her ceiling/his floor with the intent to harass. The man was advised of his rights.

   A caller reported at 4:32 p.m. Oct. 3 that he had trapped a skunk at his Raritan Avenue residence. Animal control was contacted; they said they do not come out for animals that are self-trapped.

   A Colorado Avenue caller reported at 7:05 p.m. Oct. 3 that a PSE&G man knocked on his door to discuss lower electric rates. Patrolman John Granahan located the accused, who said he was from a company with which PSE&G had contracted to make sure subscribers received discounts.

   At 8:34 p.m. Oct. 3 a caller reported a small fire along the railroad tracks at the dead end of North Weiss Street. Police, fire and rescue units were dispatched. Police said they found a lighted flare.

   A caller at 7:57 a.m. Oct. 4 reported a theft of money and electrical equipment from his bedroom and vehicle, totaling $285. He named someone he suspected. The victim declined to prosecute.

   A caller at 12:38 p.m. Oct. 4 said his West Camplain Road home had been burglarized in the past few hours. Taken were jewelry, cash and checks, with an estimated loss of $8,088. The on-call detective responded.

   Manville High School Assistant Principal Steven Venuto called police at 2 p.m. Oct. 4 to report that, in accordance with school policy, someone had been suspended for testing positive for marijuana.

* * *

   A Garry Street man said at 4 p.m. Oct. 4 that someone had fraudulently used his Social Security card to obtain credit. The report was entered in national crime computers.

* * *

   An East Camplain Road caller said numerous CSX rail cars smelled of garbage at 7:53 p.m. Oct. 4. The railroad was notified of the complaint.

   Police removed a banner from the underpass near Kennedy Boulevard at 11:29 p.m. Oct. 4.

* * *

   Adesa Auto Auction reported having a recovered black Ford, stolen in East Orange, on its lot on North Main Street at 11:24 a.m. Friday. The vehicle was removed from national crime lists.

   A Wyoming Place man flagged down Patrolman Joseph Buda at 11:31 a.m. Friday and handed him a wallet he said he had found on Brooks Boulevard at North 2nd Avenue. The wallet had a driver’s license, Social Security card and one credit card. South Bound Brook police were notified to contact the owner.

   A Jasinski Street man said at 7:41 p.m. Friday that he had received a suspicious phone call from a man, allegedly from Verizon, who said he owed $122. The caller said he had called Verizon, which said they didn’t make the call. The matter was noted and the man advised to phone back if he received other calls.

   Sameh Aboelata, 37, of the Mia Sorella restaurant on North Main Street, came to headquarters at 2:40 a.m. Saturday to report he was choked by an unknown man and that his bouncer was struck in the face by a man who left in a car. Both parties were given a citizen complaint form.

* * *

   A man came to headquarters at 1:17 p.m. Sunday to turn in a wallet he had found in Newark at the Prudential Center. The wallet had a N.J. driver’s license, firearms ID and numerous credit cards. Carteret police notified the owner, who said they’d retrieve it on Monday.
