To the editor:
I was concerned to see that Assembly candidate Marie Corfield said she supports raising the gas tax (“Assembly Race Democrats, District 16,” NJ Spotlight , June 1, 2012).
For 10 years, Trenton politicians tried raising every tax imaginable as the solution to all of our problems. Tax increases only made our fiscal problems worse, forcing jobs and families out of New Jersey and leaving us as the highest-taxed state in the country.
Marie Corfield supports higher government spending, and wants to raise taxes to pay for that increased spending (“Republican Donna Simon facing Democrat Marie Corfield in New Jersey’s 16th District,” The Express-Times , Oct. 16, 2012).
If Marie Corfield supports higher taxes and higher spending, her priorities are not in line with families struggling in this tough economy.
We tried Marie Corfield’s tax-and-spend approach for a decade and it failed. I don’t think we should go back down that path.
I will be voting for Donna Simon on Nov. 6.
