One-act play
submissions wanted
The Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System will be hosting its fifth annual One-Act Play Festival, Saturday, April 27, 2013.
Playwrights residing or working in the Delaware Valley are asked to submit their works of a staged reading, 10-minutes in length for up to five characters. The plays chosen by the selection committee will be staged for the community by local actors and directors at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library.
Amateur or professional playwrights should submit their plays by Dec. 15, 2012. Scripts can be e-mailed as a Word document attachment to [email protected] or may be brought to the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library reference desk. Please include two title pages: one with the play title only and the other with play title and name, address, phone, and email of the author. The playwright’s name should not appear in the script. Altered Book
Submissions sought
The Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System is seeking entries for its second annual Altered Book Exhibit, The Book Re-imagined.
Celebrate the love of reading and give an old book new life as a piece of art. Books may be re-imagined in any manner you choose: adorned, painted, cut, folded, collaged in, or sculpted, there are no rules. Open to artists in grades 7-12 and adults residing in Mercer County.
A limited supply of books are available now in the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Reference Department for you to use. Artists are invited to submit one piece of original artwork by Monday, Nov. 5, to the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1), Lawrenceville. Accepted entries will be publicly exhibited Nov. 10-30.

Cultural festival
The second annual Mercer County Cultural Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mercer County Park in West Windsor.
The festival will celebrate diverse cultures through live traditional dance and musical performances; foods from around the world, including Polish, Thai, Italian, Caribbean and American fare, and international beverages and desserts; craft vendors representing Native American, Mexican, Tanzanian, Guatemalan, gypsy and other cultures; art demonstrations and a variety of activities for children.
Dance performers will include Tchaka Fro Dance (Haitian), Prerna School of Indian Dance, Terpsichorian Greek Dancers, Unizi African Drums and Dance, Groove Merchant Drum and Dance Ensemble (traditional Turkish and Egyptian belly dance), and Csurdongolo Hungarian Folk Dance.
The musical lineup will include Philadelphia Mandolin and Guitar Ensemble (traditional Italian), NogBhoys (Irish), Sabrosongo with Arturo Romay (Venezuelan gaita), Odessa Klezmer Band (traditional Jewish, Romanian, gypsy), Son 7 (Puerto Rican), Spook Handy (emcee for the event and traditional American folk) and Chin Yun Chorus (traditional Chinese choral).

Ukulele orchestra
at McCarter
Anarchic, funny and mind bogglingly versatile, the virtuosic Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain transforms iconic works from Beethoven and Handel to The Who, Talking Heads and David Bowie using only the ukulele. The ensemble makes its exclusive New Jersey appearance at McCarter Theatre Center at 7:30 p.m.
Audience members are invited to download a PDF score of George Hinchliffe’s “Relentlessly in C” from the McCarter website (www.mccarter.org) then bring your ukulele to the performance and play along.
Tickets ranging from $20 to $48 may be purchased on line 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the McCarter website at www.mccarter.org or during regular business hours by phone at 609-258-2787. Students tickets cost $10 with valid ID. McCarter Theatre Center is located at 91 University Place in Princeton.
