Housing Initiatives of Princeton to present “Good Neighbor Award” to the Church & Dwight Employee Giving Fund
At its third annual Rent Party fundraiser on Saturday October 20th, Housing Initiatives of Princeton (HIP) will present the Church & Dwight Co., Inc. Employee Giving Fund (“EGF”) with its first “Good Neighbor Award”, in appreciation of its long-held commitment to HIP. Both organizations share a commitment to community and neighbors helping neighbors in time of need. The EGF has provided multi-year grant funding in support of HIP mission to assist lower-income working parents in our community, helping them to evade homelessness and improve opportunities for themselves and their children. The EGF grants have enabled HIP to assist a number of client families with transitional housing.
In February of 2005, the Church & Dwight Co., Inc. Employee Giving Fund was established to meet the desires of Church & Dwight Co., Inc. (“C&D”) employees to financially assist those who are less fortunate and to actively support and participate in the good works of non-profit organizations dedicated to that end.
The HIP Good Neighbor Award was established in 2012 in honor of the late Margaret (Peggy) Prescott, who worked to raise awareness of the plight of the working poor and the need for transitional housing with supportive services in Princeton. Margaret Prescott was the founding chair of Housing Initiatives of Princeton.
Housing Initiatives of Princeton Charitable Trust is dedicated to transitioning low-income working families and individuals who are homeless or facing imminent homelessness to permanent housing and sustained self-sufficiency. Housing Initiatives of Princeton Charitable Trust (HIPCT) is a not-for-profit organization that started assisting families in 2004 in Princeton, NJ and neighboring communities. HIPCT achieves its mission through the procurement and coordination of resources of board members, member congregations, partner agencies, concerned individuals, businesses, foundations, and charitable trusts. Transitional housing is provided up to twenty-four months. In addition to housing, HIPCT provides individualized case management services needed for clients to succeed independently.
The Rent Party will take place from 7-11 pm on Saturday, October 11th at the Present Day Club in Princeton. Named in honor of “Raise the Rent” parties, in which partygoers chipped in to make the monthly rent for their hosts, the event will feature jazz, soul food (including a custom ice cream flavor from Princeton’s Bent Spoon, and poetry of the Harlem Renaissance read by Pulitzer Prizewinning poet and Princeton professor Paul Muldoon. Auction items include vacation homes in Italy and Switzerland, a custom dinner party with “Foraged Flavor” author Tama Matsuoka Wong, and original scripts and signed posters from TV’s Family Guy and The Cleveland Show.
