HILLSBOROUGH: Sheridan honored by grocery industry

Hillsborough’s Joe Sheridan, president and chief operating officer of Wakefern Food Corporation, was recognized by the Grocery Manufacturers Association with the 2012 Industry Collaboration Leadership Award at the GMA Executive Conference on Aug. 27 in Keasbey
The award recognizes an industry leader who has demonstrated career excellence in fostering collaboration amongst trading partners and programs that better serve the consumer.
”Joe has been instrumental in building industry collaboration on key initiatives such as the Rapid Recall Exchange and other business building areas that help us serve the consumer better and more completely,” said Pamela G. Bailey, president and CEO of GMA.
Mr. Sheridan has also demonstrated the importance of trading collaboration by serving as chairman of the National Grocers Association. He is a member of the board of directors and the Executive Committee of the Food Marketing Institute. He is also a board member of GS 1, a non-profit organization that designs and manages standards for the global supply chain.
From a struggling cooperative with eight members — all owners of their own grocery stores — in 1946, Wakefern Food Corp. has grown into the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the United States. The cooperative is comprised of 47 members who today individually own and operate nearly 250 supermarkets under the ShopRite banner.
Based in Washington, D.C., the Grocery Manufacturers Association is the voice of more than 300 leading food, beverage and consumer product companies.
