Last Friday Christ the King School went pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The first-time schoolwide event raised $1,100 for the cause.
”The kids dressed down in pink clothes instead of wearing their uniforms,” said kindergarten teacher and organizer Melissa Reilley-Grecco. “They paid $1 donation (for the privilege) and the families were very generous this year. Between donations from families and teachers we raised close to $1,100.” Students, teachers and faculty members wore pink shirts, sweaters and pants and girls had pink bows and ribbons in their hair. Some boys even wore pink shirts to show their support. There were pink balloons and pink decorations around the school, too.
The students were excited and enjoyed telling the stories about their loved ones, according to Ms. Reilley-Grecco.
”The children were able to make donations in honor of family members who have been affected by breast cancer and I will walk in honor of them during the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this year,” she said.
The Avon Walk is this weekend, Oct. 20 and 21. This is the eighth year she is participating in the 39.3-mile walk through New York over two days.
