HILLSBOROUGH: Hillsborough Dukes football, cheer summaries from weekend of Oct. 12-13

   The Hillsborough Dukes traveled to Phillipsburg on Sunday, Oct. 14. The Dukes competed in games across four levels starting at 9 in the morning to end their away schedule for the season.
   Flag teams
   The Red Flag team played a physical game against Phillipsburg. The offense scored four times, led by quarterback Jack O’Donnell with a touchdown run and a touchdown pass to Philip Unangst. Jason Roser also scored two short touchdowns after runs by Trey McKeever and Chris Spinelli.
   Defensively, Wade Liedl, Layne Carley, Jack Moran and Billy Meszaros led with contributions from O’Donnell and Unangst.
   The Yellow Flag team had a great day in Phillipsburg. The offense was led by a touchdown pass from CJ Olney to Cole Hayden, and touchdown runs by Jack Geraci, Adrian Carley, Logan McDermid and James Grohe. Liam Schwartz, Tristan Jose and Steven Hunt also sparked the offense with long runs. Defensively, Anthony Sowinski, Marcus Baker had strong games along with Hayden and Carley.
Mitey Mites
   The Mitey Mites battled again this week against Phillipsburg. The offense scored once with a touchdown by Mike Abode. Matt Ruggier scored an extra point and also completed a pass and catch to Rocco Viscel. Michael Caporosso had a long return on special teams. The defense was led by James Mazuera, Michael Boer and Viscel.
   Junior PeeWee
   The Junior Pee Wee beat Phillipsburg, 20-6. Aiden Lugo was outstanding on defense with multiple tackles for losses. Andre Scheflin ran for a score, passed for more than 100 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Sean Levonaitis. Levonaitis also had a long touchdown run. Vinnie Aboosamaro had key runs late in the game while Kyle Chedid threw for an extra point and was on the receiving end of an extra point pass. Mark McClain also scored an extra point on a reception.
   PeeWee
   The Dukes Peewee team took on Phillipsburg on Sunday and lost, 22-0. The boys fought hard, including two fumble recoveries by Randy Potts and a 50-plus rushing yard day put in by Justin Gaynor. The team continues to fight and hold its head high in spite of going up against larger, faster, and more experienced teams.
   Cheer
   All of the football teams would like to thank the Dukes cheer squads for their support. The girls cheered on the teams and used this week as their final live practice for competition, which begins next week. Good luck to the teams next week at Mountain Valley Conference Cheer Competition.
   Schedule
   The Dukes’ will have a full slate next weekend. On Oct. 20 all the cheer teams will be at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School for the MVC Competition, which qualifies them to the state level. The flag football team will spend next Saturday in Phillipsburg for an all-day tournament.
   On the 21st all the Dukes teams will end their regular season with an extra home game at the high school. The teams will be competing against Del Val on every level except for Junior Pee Wee, which will host a playoff game against Montgomery.
