About the Series: Floral Still Life features studies inspired by the work of master still life photographers. Working with teacher Peter Cook at the Arts Council of Princeton, Vega focused on motion, light, abstraction, and painterly quality. He chose to limit the images to simple elements: vase; a single flower—tulip, Calla lily, or safari sunset; and limited color palette on a white background.
To produce stark images in vivid color, Vega employed overexposure, light sources of different color temperatures, oversaturation, exaggerated scale, and an emphasis on geometry. The result is brushstroke-like elements with blurred edges, a rich color palette, and a sense of motion.
About Henry Vega: Vega earned a B.S. in Interior Design at Drexel University in 1999. He worked as an interior designer for 10 years at architecture firms in Philadelphia In 2008, he moved with his partner of 11 years to Princeton. In the wake of the economic recession of 2008, Vega turned his attentions to his real passion, photography. Since then, he has explored street, event, portrait, and still life photography. In 2010 he joined the staff of the Princeton University Art Museum, where he has become the event photographer.
