Trenton, New Jersey n October 23, 2012 n The New Jersey Association of School Librarians (NJASL), the professional organization for school librarians in the state of New Jersey, today announced the selection of Sophie Brookover, Program Coordinator and Social Media Manager for LibraryLinkNJ, as the recipient of the 2012 New Jersey Association of School Librarians’ President’s Award.
The incoming NJASL president selects an individual who has honored and advanced the profession of school library media specialists to receive the annual President’s Award.
This year’s recipient, Ms. Brookover, has produced continuing education programs pertinent to school librarians, including Handhelds in School Libraries NJ Unconference, various webinars and has coordinated the On-site, On-Demand Professional Development Program for School Librarians.
“The election of Sophie Brookover for this year’s President’s Award is a result of her hard work and deep commitment to keeping New Jersey and school librarians at the forefront of the education discussion,” said Amy Rominiecki, Board President of the New Jersey Association of School Librarians. “We truly appreciate her vision and tenacity in upholding the mission of school librarians.”
In addition to her professional work as a school library media specialist, Ms. Brookover has received national accolades, including the AASL’s Thinkfinity Zmuda Challenge Grant in 2010, was named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker in 2006, and received the Baker & Taylor/YALSA Conference Grant in 2005.
Amy Rominiecki will present Ms. Brookover with the 2012 President’s Award on Friday, November 30, 2012, during the NJASL Fall Conference. The conference, which provides professional development and networking opportunities to more than 600 school library media specialists from across the state, is an excellent opportunity to honor Ms. Brookover for her contributions to the field.
