Congressman Rush Holt spoke at our October meeting about the Affordable Care Act and Medicare. He gave us a brief synopsis of the provisions and issues of the Affordable Care Act and explained the exchange where you will be allowed to purchase insurance. He further discussed Medicare and the changes that have occurred, as well as Medicare Part D. It was a very informative presentation and answered many questions.
Phil Petrone reminded everyone that the Homestead Rebate will be applied to your May 2013 tax bill, not your February one. Also, fourth-quarter taxes are due on Nov. 1 but there is a two-day extension to Nov. 12 as the 10th falls on a weekend. The tax office will be open to 7 p.m. on the 12th.
Leaf season is upon us and there will be a once-a-week pickup so have your leaves in the gutter, not in plastic bags. Remember to keep the storm drains clear. Bulk and brush pick-up will continue on Tuesdays until Nov. 27 and then resume in February.
Voting will take place on Nov. 6 at the VFW for all districts. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Board of Education election for three members will also be held that day with the general and municipal elections.
Tickets for the Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the VFW will be on sale at the Nov. 8 meeting. This will be the last time to buy at $10 for members and $20 for guests. A seating chart will be set up; make sure you sign up.
Nominations for officers for 2013 will be conducted at the November meeting. Offices are president, vice-president, recording secretary, membership secretary, corresponding secretary, treasurer, two chaplains, sergeant-at-arms and three trustees.
The second vice-president office has been eliminated and the financial secretary changed to membership secretary.
Club dues have been increased to $10 and should be paid by February for 2013.
