MANVILLE: Borough expects to be spared major flooding

Manville was crossing and fingers and hoping it could expect any major flooding from Hurricane Sandy.
Mayor Angelo Corradino said at 6 p.m. that the borough hadn’t experienced any water damage and had had no power outages.
Trees had come down on Huff and Persinko avenues, he said.
The mayor said they have been told to expect another half-inch of rain through the night and maybe another inch tomorrow.
”We don’t expect any flooding as long as the storm stays on this track,” he said. We’re concerned more about wind damage.”
He said 26 people were using the borough shelter in the VFW on Washington Avenue.
The mayor said his emergency management officials said they didn’t expect any Millstone River flooding — if any came at all — to rise further than Lincoln Avenue and wouldn’t affect any homes.
For once, he said, he was relieved Manville was in the same boat as everyone else — worried about the wind but not major flooding.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed,” he said. “We’ll prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.”
Schools and local, county and state offices will continue to be closed Tuesday.
