Atlantic Brass Quintet tops bill at concert

FREEHOLD — This year’s annual Christmas concert hosted by the First Presbyterian Church will feature two nationally known performers.

The Atlantic Brass Quintet will entertain guests with a unique Christmas program at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8. The quintet is based in Boston. The group has won a Grammy award.

Monmouth County’s Rock ’n Roll Chorus, directed by Joseph Cantaffa, will open the show.

The First Presbyterian Church is on West Main Street, Freehold Borough.

The Christmas concert at the church began in 2005, according to Dr. Robert M. DiSogra, who chairs the Special Music Committee at the house of worship.

DiSogra said the Atlantic Brass Quintet “has been heard around the United States and in more than a dozen countries across four continents, performing a unique repertoire spanning six centuries and many musical genres.”

The Atlantic Brass Quintet was founded in 1985 and is based in Boston. The quintet is the resident brass quintet of Boston University, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the Boston Conservatory.

Concert-goers will also be entertained by the Rock ’n Roll Chorus. Cantaffa said he is excited to be directing the talented high school singers who make up this national touring a cappella chorus.

“Opening for such a well-respected brass ensemble will be an honor and a wonderful blending of voices and brass,” Cantaffa said.

Following the quintet’s performance, the Rock ’n Roll Chorus will return to the stage and perform with the quintet.

The chorus has performed in Nashville, Orlando, Baltimore, Cleveland, New York City and New Jersey.

Tickets for the Dec. 8 concert at the First Presbyterian Church are $35 and all seats are reserved. For more information, call 732-431-5623.
