EAST WINDSOR: Volunteers are organizing supplies to help those impacted by Superstorm Sandy.
The American Legion Post 148 in East Windsor, Fire Station 41 of Hightstown and the Joshua Harr Shane Foundation have united to provide food and shelter for people beginning Nov. 5.
An overnight shelter to service township children and their parents and the elderly is being offered at the American Legion, 895 Route 130. There is limited overnight space until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Nov. 6, and folks should bring their own bedding.
Today, doors open at 3:30 p.m. for coffee and warmth. Dinner will be served 5:30 p.m.
Tomorrow’s dinner will be served at 8 p.m. due to the American Legion being a polling place on Election Day. There will be no lunch time service at the emergency shelter due to elections.
Overnight stays will again resume for township residents in need Tuesday night with limited space.
To donate supplies to this local effort, drop off powder milk, snacks, serving utensils, baked goods or paper towels to 895 Route 130 in East Windsor. To make a monetary donation, visit www.joshuaharrshane.org.
