No power means they’ll attend classes in other schools in district
Manville schools reopened for all students on Wednesday.
Since the Roosevelt School for grades 4 and 5 is still without power — with no recovery timeline identified by the utility company — faculty, staff and students of the school have been reassigned to Manville High and Alexander Batcho Intermediate schools, said Superintendent Johanna Ruberto in a letter to parents Tuesday. The schools were on a full-day schedule, with lunch available for purchase.
The district reviewed other options — like securing a generator on Thursday, pending approval from the state Department of Education and the fire marshal; alternative schedules for all schools, and securing space at Christ the King School.
School information said areas in town where caution was warranted included the Roosevelt School area (Louis Street, 4th and 5th avenues); Duke’s Parkway; and Raritan and Gary streets. There remains debris on 4th Avenue near the Roosevelt School.
