SOMERSET COUNTY: Lance easily wins third term

Congressman Leonard Lance, a Republican from Clinton Township, earned a thrid term in the U.S. House of Representatives with a lopsided 58%-40% victory over state Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula.
Mr. Lance gained about 56% of the vote in Somerset County, 54% in Union  County and padded the lead with margins of 60% or more in three counties (Hunterdon, Morris, Warren) in which he was well known as a state legislator for 18 before being elected to Congress in 2008.
In Hillsborough, he was given a nearly a 1,600-vote plurality over Mr. Chivukula, who lives outside the district in Franklin Township, Somerset County. He had 7,970 votes to the Democrat’s 6,383.
Libertarian Patrick McKnight, who lives in Hillsborough, gained 1,221 votes in Somerset, and 3,554 in the district, or 1.2% of the vote. Independent Dennis Breen of Summit had 4,052.
